Blue in the garden is not common. It is one of the merits of ceanothe to offer a beautiful palette, from pale blue to indigo.

Depending on the variety, ceanoths decline their flowering in endless shades.

Often intense blue, spring ceanoths like the sun and do us the grace to keep their foliage in winter.

In freedom the ceanothe

Relatively fast growing, ceanothes have a fairly opulent vegetation. Very easy to grow in temperate regions, they also have excellent resistance to atmospheric pollution and tolerate drought well (that of the soil more than that of the air) when they are well established. Compact or creeping species are perfect on the balcony. Most varieties are suitable for a worry-free garden.

The ceanothes have different shapes (creeping, rounded, erect ..) and this diversity is a chance for the creative gardener who can give free rein to his imagination. For a very strong visual effect in a shrub bed, choose a free form, but leave your ceanoths enough space so that they can stretch out at their ease. choose them upright and brush them in a very sunny place. The trained subjects reach a height double that of the ceanoths left free. Varieties with spreading habit of evergreen ceanoths are mainly used as ground cover on slopes and in rock gardens.

On the balcony the céanothe

For your balcony, choose a variety suitable for growing in pots and your céanothe will delight you, in the company of some easy shrubs that will scale their beauty over the seasons: perovskia, althea, Mexican orange tree, rosemary, laurel from Portugal, lavender and bulbs and perennials.

Plant it in a container at least 40 cm deep filled with a mixture of sandy garden soil and rose potting soil. It should be avoided to install it near a very light wall so that the foliage does not "burn out" in summer.

Respect as much as possible the natural silhouette of ceanoths and let the creeping species dress a stair railing, the corner of a bed or a terrace, an embankment. Plant shrub ceanoths with shrubs with light foliage and pair them with bulbs or perennials with yellow flowers.
